This August, the British Council Summer Camp will give US teenagers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of modern Britain. Funded by the UK 9/11 Scholarship Fund, this educational and cultural program brings together teenagers who endured the death or serious injury of a parent in the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
Over the course of ten days, teens will be introduced to further and higher education opportunities in the UK through visits to colleges and universities, while experiencing British culture through visits to popular sites across the UK. The Summer Camp is a whirlwind tour packed with hands-on activities in classrooms as well as fun-filled visits to the sites of modern Britain.
The British Council Summer Camp originated thanks to the generous donations from the World Trade Centre Disaster Fund and the UK toy manufacturer Merrythought Ltd. The Summer Camp is organized by the British Council as part of the UK 9/11 Scholarships Fund.

Program Details and Eligibility
This year the British Council Summer Camp will take place between 6 and 17 August 2013. We will select 25 participants between the ages of 15 and 17 years old. Students should be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school in autumn 2013.
Selected colleges and universities will work with the British Council in the UK to deliver a varied program of activities, including day trips, that highlight further and higher education opportunities in the UK and showcase British culture. Students are accompanied by highly experienced chaperones from the US and staff from the British Council are present to support the students at all times during the program.
What does it cost?
Funding for the trip will cover most costs including:
Applicants will be selected for the 25 places available this year. To apply please read the application guidance thoroughly before completing the on-line application. A parent/guardian should also read this guidance and ensure that their child/ward completes Part 2 of the application without assistance. We want to hear from the applicants themselves. This will be vital in the selection process and will also help us tailor the program to the participants and their interests.
